Since March 2015, the English Federation of Disability Sport has attended Disabled Living’s Kidz to Adultz events across England. We are keen to promote the Inclusive Community Training and Sainsbury’s Inclusive PE Training alongside offering advice to visitors about ways to be active in their local area.
We enjoy exhibiting at the Kidz to Adultz events as they provide a great opportunity to meet a variety of people from different backgrounds. Often we link the people we meet with their local County Sport Partnerships and National Disability Sport Organisations, so they can find out about local activities and opportunities.
From handing out leaflets about our training programmes, to linking individuals with local opportunities, the Kidz to Adultz events enable us to make a difference to the lives of many disabled people – making active lives possible!
Our team is available during the event to talk to you about the Sainsbury’s Inclusive PE and Community Training – come talk to us at stand V1!
Did you know that approximately 8 in 10 of all young disabled people attend mainstream schools? But many of these young people cannot access or are not fully included in PE lessons. As a result, in 2012 Sainsbury’s Active Kids for All launched, focussing on the development and delivery of inclusive PE training for teachers in mainstream schools across the UK. The initiative provides free training to teachers, trainee teachers and school staff to improve the quality of PE provision for young disabled people.
Since the training began, tutors have delivered more than 750 workshops across the UK. Over 11,500 teachers, trainee teachers and school staff have attended one of the free workshops. It is estimated that over 300,000 young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) have benefitted.
If you’re a teacher, trainee teacher or any member of staff that supports PE and are interested in attending a workshop, come and talk to us.
Communities too can play an important role in getting more disabled people active
Over four years, more than 10,600 people have benefitted from Sainsbury’s Inclusive Community Training. As a result, tens of thousands of disabled people are leading a more active lifestyle.
The Inclusive Community Training Programme is a creative, informal and informative workshop. It’s designed to improve the skills and confidence of those who support disabled people to be more active. The training is delivered in partnership by the English Federation of Disability Sport and UK Coaching. It consists of a three-hour practical workshop complimented by online resources. Check out our programme video here.
