In this guest blog, Driving Mobility presents DriveAbility Scotland, the first of its centres providing its services for Scottish residents by supporting young people with disabilities who are wanting to learn to drive. Find Driving Mobility at Kidz to Adultz Scotland, stand V4.

Driving Mobility, the national charity that provides a network of driving assessment centres for disabled drivers of all ages, will be exhibiting services from its recently opened centre in Glasgow at Kidz to Adultz Scotland.

Driving Mobility coordinates a network of over 20 centres in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, many with outreach facilities, which provide ‘fitness to drive’ and mobility equipment assessments. Supported by The Department for Transport, Driving Mobility Approved Driving Instructors (ADIs) and Occupational Therapists (OTs) guide and support individuals who self-refer or are signposted from the DVLA, Motability, Police and NHS. Every member is committed to enabling people with restricted mobility can remain independent whether driving an adapted vehicle, using assistive equipment or travelling by accessible transport.

Driving Mobility’s latest centre, DriveAbility Scotland, is the first to open that provides services for Scottish people as nearby centres in England cannot be accessed by residents north of the border due to NHS Commissioning rules.

The Driving Mobility team will be on hand throughout Kidz Scotland to specifically support young disabled drivers and those wishing to learn. There will be advice on all aspects of adapted driving from tuition and gaining a licence through to appropriate vehicles and steering adaptations.

The DriveAbility Scotland team provides:

  • Car driving assessments
  • Driver / Passenger access / car seat assessments
  • Driving tuition service
  • Off-road assessment
  • Driving adaptations assessments

This new driving assessment centre is easy to find –  located next to Mobility Solutions, part of Allied Vehicles, in Glasgow. It is open Monday to Wednesday, 9am-5pm, where the friendly team will be ready to resolve all assisted driving needs.
